Dokuz Eylül University İZİSYÖM (Izmir Province Strategic Planning, Governance, Research and Implementation Centre) held an awareness meeting on “Clean Energy and the Situation of the Aegean Region, Current Investments, Future Scenarios” on 30 November 2017 at DEÜ DESEM Bordo Hall.

The meeting started with the opening speech of IZISYÖM Director Assoc. Prof. Yunus Emre Özer. In his speech, Özer stated that obtaining energy in clean and renewable ways is an important agenda item of both international politics and environmental debates. He also drew attention to the increasing investments in the world and Turkey’s potential.

Sena Gürsoy, Acting Secretary General of Izmir Development Agency, Kasım Kutlu from Kutlu Energy, Prof. Dr. Niyazi Aksoy, Director of DEU Geothermal Energy Research and Application Centre (JENARUM), İbrahim Uğur from Deer Engineering and Besim Kıvanç Deneçli, Electrical and Electronics Engineer, attended the awareness meeting moderated by Prof. Dr. Günnur Koçar, Director of Ege University Solar Energy Institute.

In his presentation titled “Izmir Regional Plan and Clean Energy”, Sena Gürsoy, Acting Secretary General of Izmir Development Agency, talked about the status of clean energy within the framework of the Izmir Regional Plan, İZKA’s funding support for clean energy and the projects realised.

 

In his presentation titled “Current Status and Experiences in Clean Energy”, Kasım Kutlu from Kutlu Energy made a presentation on the development status of renewable energy in Turkey, current problems and predictions for the future.

Prof. Dr. Niyazi Aksoy, Director of DEU Geothermal Energy Research and Application Centre (JENARUM), gave a presentation titled “Current Status of Geothermal Energy in Turkey and Suggestions for the Future”, which included theoretical information on geothermal energy as well as investments and potential.

İbrahim Uğur from Deer Engineering, in his presentation titled “The Last Exit Before the Cliff (Solar Energy)”, drew attention to the polluting aspect of fossil fuels and emphasised the necessity of turning towards renewable energy in general and solar energy in particular. He also emphasised the importance of on-site production of energy.

Electrical and Electronics Engineer Besim Kıvanç Deneçli, in his presentation titled “Wind Energy Investments and Future Scenarios”, drew attention to the fact that China and the USA dominate the renewable energy field and that hesitations towards wind energy should be eliminated.

After the awareness meeting, participation certificates were presented to the speakers by DEU IZISYÖM Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yunus Emre Özer.
