The first of the Interdisciplinary Disaster Management Symposium (DAYSEM), which was initiated by Dokuz Eylül University and aims to be carried out, developed and sustained by one of our universities every year under the same title in order to create academic and social awareness in its region, was held on 12-13 May 2017 at the 75th Year Amphitheatre of our Rectorate.
The symposium, coordinated by the Department of Disaster Management of SBE on behalf of our university, aimed to raise awareness on the management-centred issues faced by different disciplines, developed by risk/crisis analysis and the processes related to the symposium theme, and to know, share and evaluate the skills of obtaining, evaluating, interpreting, developing strategies and implementing them based on recent developments and practices in the field of disaster management.
The symposium started with the opening speeches of Prof. Dr. Zerrin Toprak Karaman, Chairperson of the Symposium and Head of the Department of Disaster Management, Prof. Dr. M. Banu Durukan Salı, Director of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Banu Esra Aslanertik, Vice Rector of our University, Prof. Dr. Aslı Özer, President of İzmir Red Crescent Branch and Uğur Kolsuz, Deputy Governor of İzmir.
The Symposium, where papers were presented under the topics of Vulnerable Groups in Disasters, Corporate and Social Responsibility in Disasters, Communication in Disasters, Investment Preferences and Disaster Planning, Health Management in Disasters, Triage Management in Disasters, Spatial Utilisation and Risky Areas in Disasters, Izmir’s Disaster and Disaster History, was held in 6 sessions for two days.
